Noah Schembri's Internship Journey at Revolve Communications

Noah Schembri, a fourth-year student at the University of Dundee pursuing a BSc in Psychology with an elective in Economics, embarked on a transformative summer internship at Revolve Communications. Hailing from Perth, Noah's ambition and versatility made him eager to dive into the world of business management and development. His internship at Revolve Communications, under the mentorship of Managing Director Dan Cargill, provided the perfect platform for Noah to explore his career interests and gain invaluable experience.

Stepping into the Unknown

Noah's excitement was palpable when he learned about his summer internship at Revolve Communications. He was eager to transition from a consumer-facing role in telecommunications to experiencing the B2B sector. Noah's primary goals were to understand the day-to-day responsibilities of an account manager and to immerse himself in a business environment. He reflected, "Upon finding out I had been offered a summer internship at Revolve, I was excited to get a view into the B2B world of telecommunications. I also wanted to gain as much valuable experience in a business setting."

Dan Cargill outlined a series of projects for Noah, including: researching and implementing administration improvements, advising and implementing enhanced filing systems, conducting device management market research, developing new/improved proposal documents and creating tutorials and process guides.

Navigating New Waters

Noah's first day at Revolve Communications was filled with anticipation. As he entered the professional office environment, he felt a mixture of excitement and anxiety. However, his nerves were quickly eased by Dan's warm welcome and a friendly briefing. Noah recalled, "Coming into the office the first day, I was a bit apprehensive as it can be intimidating to enter a highly professional environment. I was instantly greeted and briefed by Dan with a smile." He was introduced to the team, who were all extremely friendly and welcoming.

Dan's initial expectation of Noah bringing fresh perspectives and ideas to improve internal processes proved to be well-founded. "I wanted a fresh perspective and ideas being brought to the table to improve our internal processes and improve our day-to-day methods of working," Dan explained. Noah attended client and business development meetings, participated in networking events, and gained a comprehensive understanding of Revolve's high-quality services. His quick adaptation and proactive approach were evident from the start.

Overcoming Challenges

The greatest obstacle Noah faced was the novelty of working in a full-time office role. His initial projects focused on streamlining account management processes, which required him to absorb a lot of new information quickly. Noah admitted, "For me, the greatest challenge I faced was dealing with the novelty of the whole experience. However, under Dan’s guidance, I adopted a meticulous and structured process." His ability to transfer skills from university, such as organization, statistical analysis, and research, helped him navigate these challenges effectively. “I made the most effort to use my previous knowledge to propel my growth and learning in overcoming new tasks," he noted.
